6 Easy ways to spruce up the outside of your home...

Summer is here and it is the perfect time to spruce up the yard! You don't have to sped an arm and a leg to do it either.

1. Add some plants
Adding flowers and shrubs is an inexpensive way to add green and pops of color. If you live in an apartment in somewhere that will not allow you to plant plants, you can easily hang them!

2. Add flare to the front door
Paint your front door with a fresh coat of matching paint or a new color that will add some flare. If painting is not an option, add a colorful wreath or large bow.

3. Light it up
Add new light bulbs to any outdoor lighting. Particularly the sconce located outside of the front door. You can even add colored light bulbs for an extra pop.

4. Power wash the house
You can hire someone or rent a power washer, but either way, this task will brighten up the outside of your home.

5. Furnish it up
Add outdoor seating on the front porch. An economical way to do this would be to check out the Facebook marketplace for people selling furniture in your area.

6. Clean it up
Mow, weed eat, clean out gutters.

How much mulch do you need...how to figure it out...

Typically, you will need 3-4 inches of mulch to cover your space. The reason for this is because the first rain will wash some of the mulch away.

Although we do have a mulch calculator to the right of this blog, I will give you the formula to figure it out.

Measure your space in feet.
Take the total and divide it by 3. (This gives you the square yard total)

Take 3 or 4 inches of mulch and divide it by 36.
Take the total and multiply it by the square yardage total.

This will give you the total cubic yards.
We sell our mulch by the cubic yard and sell in half yard increments.

Here is an example using 183 feet of coverage:
  • 183 divided by 3 = 61
  • 3 divided by 36 =.08333
  • .08333 x 61 = 5.083
5 cubic yards of mulch

Backyard family activities

Now that you have gotten your backyard all spruced up for the summer, try out some fun backyard activities with friends and family:

Outdoor movie night
Bring the big screen out back and add a few air mattresses for a fun outdoor movie night. Serve popcorn and bottled drinks for easy clean up.

Twister
Remember the game twister? Create your own Twister board on the grass! Buy spray paint in blue, yellow, red and orange and spray circles on the grass. Next time you cut the grass, it will magically be gone!

Relax under the lights
String white Christmas lights over your outdoor sitting area, down porch polls and anywhere else you see fit.

Camping
Remember that old tent you have sitting in the garage? Put it up for the kids for an evening of camping. Throw in some snacks and drinks and memories will be made.
