Can mulch prevent weeds?
In order for mulch to act as a barrier for weeds, you have to lay down a minimum 3 inch layer of mulch.
In order to survive, weeds need light and warm soil. So, by adding extra mulch over the top of weeds, it blocks the sunlight and prohibits growth.
You can also use what is called a double mulching technique to keep weeds at bay. Lay down newspaper, then add mulch on top.
Of course, no technique is guaranteed to keep weeds away, but these two techniques will definitely help!
